Producer identity

A village cooperative that changed course

Celler de Capçanes began in 1933 as a village cooperative supplying grapes and bulk wine. Bottling created a direct market for wines carrying the cooperative's own identity.

Peraj Ha'abib was first made from the 1995 vintage in response to demand from Barcelona's Jewish community. Kosher wine remains a significant part of the cellar's history while the current range extends far beyond it.

Current wine evidence

Kosher wines and a much wider Capçanes range

Peraj Ha'abib

The cellar's best-known kosher red. The current range also includes kosher white, rosé, Pinot Noir and small-production Garnatxa and Carinyena wines.

La Nit de les Garnatxes

Four Garnatxa wines made to show differences between sand, clay, limestone and llicorella plots without treating one soil as a definition of Capçanes.

Cabrida and the wider range

Cabrida is an old-vine Garnatxa. The current catalogue also runs from Mas Donís and Mas Picosa through parcel wines, sweet wines, vermouth and cava.

Place relationship

The working cellar stands beside Capçanes station

The winery is at Carrer Llaberia, 9, close to the railway stop north of the village centre. Its public visit explains both cooperative production and the requirements surrounding kosher wine.

The cooperative's four-terroir Garnatxa series is useful producer evidence of local variation. It is not a municipal geological map.
