DOQ Priorat’s origin system narrows from the appellation to village, named place and classified vineyard. It identifies provenance and conditions, rather than awarding a critic’s score.
DOQ Priorat is the broad appellation level
The general DOQ category identifies wine made under the appellation’s rules from its defined territory. It can combine grapes from several villages and sites.
A broad-origin wine is not necessarily a basic wine. Producers may choose it for blends whose purpose depends on more than one part of the appellation.

Vi de Vila names a village zone
Vi de Vila links a wine to one of the DOQ’s recognised village wine zones. These zones include ten named settlements plus Masos de Falset and Solanes del Molar.
The wine zone and the administrative municipality are related but not always identical. That distinction matters at Falset, El Molar and Scala Dei.

Paratge narrows origin to a named place
A Vi de Paratge is tied to a delimited place whose orography, geology and microclimate support a more precise origin claim.
Paratge should be read as geographic traceability. It does not mean that every wine from that place shares one style, or that a producer without the term lacks a site-specific wine.
Vinya Classificada identifies an individual vineyard recognised for exceptional attributes. Gran Vinya Classificada is the rarest level and adds a stronger natural and historical continuity claim.
The hierarchy is controlled through origin records and specific rules. Consumers should check the exact wording on the bottle rather than translating the categories into Burgundy or Rioja terminology.
